Summary: He left his bathroom stall door unlocked.
Peter trailed dazedly from the court as the judge called for a break in the trial proceedings to get lunch. He had to admit, despite his earlier misgivings, the case was going well…better then well actually. The jury very clearly identified and admired Jennifer and why not? The woman was confident in herself; she reached a level of self-assuredness that most girls only strive for, but never reach. Hell, even Peter himself was a little bit mystified by her, not as much as he played it up in court but still.
Peter lost track of Jared for a moment in the crowd that filled the pretentious hallway of the courthouse. However, he had years of practice in the sport he called Jared Locating, that it took him a mere five seconds to locate him once more. The taller lawyer pushed through the crowd in between him and his shorter partner and followed the other man into the bathroom.
As soon as he entered, just a few steps behind his friend, he knew something was bothering Jared and that he wanted to talk about it: he left his bathroom stall door unlocked. It was a sign the brunette haired man knew well. He entered the small stall without checking if anyone saw him enter a stall that was already occupied; it wasn’t like he fucking cared what others thought.
Instantly his back was pressed against the dingy stall wall and a hard smaller body was aligned with his in just that way. Lips crushed his hard and a warm wet tongue forced its way into his mouth without preamble. Hands scrambled to get a firm hold on his shoulders, wrinkling his suit jacket mercilessly. He pulled back from the kissing ignoring, as best he could manage, the want sparked inside of him; desperation like what he just received needed to be addressed with words.
“Jared?” He questioned keeping his voice light in case his partner was lost in his own headspace that loud words would spook him. His gaze searched the familiar face. Jared’s eyes were slightly sad, his brows confused, and the lines around his mouth spoke of anger.
“You kissed her.” Jared spoke calmly but Peter could hear the thread of betrayal and anger underneath it. Jared was hurt by his actions. Of course, he was! Peter really should have seen this coming. After what happened in college, the other man was easily hurt by any implications of cheating. Peter was really fucking stupid.
“I had to, Jared, for the case.” He stated just for the record, but he knew the why didn’t matter to Jared. If the roles had been reversed and Jared was the one who kissed Jennifer, the why wouldn’t matter to him either.
“One thing leads to another…” That tone was broken, defeated, and Peter hated it. He wanted to chase away the ghost of the past that always made Jared feel like a consolation prize.
“No, it doesn’t. Not this time.” Peter countered vemently pulling his partner back up against him. “It’s you and me. You know that.”
The kiss that followed was soft, sweet, and full of love and Jared simply could not argue with that.
