Peter & Janie Back-story

Greetings fellow F&B fanatics,

I'm hoping some of you lovely people can help me....

I'm not exactly new here, but I've kind of been lurking around and not saying anything so I guess I should introduce myself. Most Internet communities I'm a part of know me as Dotty, parents named me Lauren, and one of my best friends calls me Ted... long story... anyway, feel free to address me as any of those. :-P

the reason for this post is that I have an idea stuck in my head for a fanfic, but I need a little help with the back-story, as I don't have my DVD yet (I'm hoping Santa will bring me it for Christmas)... does anyone know how Peter and Janie got together??? I need as many details of their relationship as possible. when and where they met, how they got together, when they broke up etc...

any help you guys could give me would be fantastic.

There isn't *that* much detail in canon about Peter and Janie, but here's what I remember off the top of my head. I'm sure people will be able to add in more:

I'm pretty sure we don't actually know when they got together or how long they dated for. I'm desperate to know.

Jared went to law school with Janie, because he stared at her in one of her classes. We don't know for a fact that Peter and Jared went to the same law school, and Jared staring at Janie doesn't mean they knew her, or Jared knowing her doesn't prove that Peter did?

Peter and Janie had sex *during* their first date.

Peter gave her footrubs even though he thinks feet are weird, and he wrote her a rock opera with the music from Rent but all his own lyrics.

She beats him a lot in court, I can't remember the numbers, but the case in the pilot is the first one he won against her out of fifteen or twenty or something.

Since they broke up she's had time to date at least one other person before Peter - a civil war re-enactor with a soul patch. And then date Nathan long enough to get engaged. And then they've spent six months not having sex by the time we get to episode 9.

Also in episode 9 Peter says they've only been split up for a year. So they were presumably split up for 6 months before we start, and Janie had been dating Dawson for a while, and then the next six months are the first series?

(Actually maybe her not having sex for so long explains her sudden weird bout of jealousy in the bangover and being cross that Peter slept with Lily, maybe she was just feeling a bit of tension. That bit always makes me cross, so I might make that my own personal reason for her being weird then.)

I don't think we ever get any specifics of how exactly they did get together. We DO know that they've known her since at least the first year of law school (assuming that Peter and Jared went to the same school -- which we do, otherwise the canon back story would make even less sense) because Janie accuses Jared of having stared at her in con law in their first year. Peter and Janie also had sex on their first date, and he wrote her an entire rock opera (the music was from RENT, but the lyrics were all his). It's not quite clear, but I think we can also safely assume that he gave her foot rubs although he hates feet. And apparently he had an airplane trail a banner for her as well. At the beginning of the show it's been over between them for about a year.

That's all I can say that I'm sure about it. I have some more infos in my head, but I think they're mainly made up by myself or thanks to fanfic (like the one time Peter came back earlier from a weekend trip with her ... but I'm pretty sure that was in one of Jen's stories. *headdesk*)

I totally forgot that bit about an aeroplane banner when Peter is listing things of love. I put a bit about one of those in the end of the kidnap fic, I think, but I don't think Jared would say it if it had Janie!connotations, so I might be changing that yes.

(Aeroplane/airplane is another UK/US spelling thing. I don't want you to think I'm casually correcting you, I'm just being english.)

thanks you guys.... I didn't think we'd been given much info in cannon, but I wanted to check so that I could keep those details as close to cannon as possible.

hopefully I'll get time to write the story up soon :D

You're welcome, we've spent a ridiculous amount of time sifting through canon to find any clues we can, it turns out.
