To be quite honest, I can't stand Halloween. It has no tradition here in Germany whatsoever and it's just a festival imported because we imported everything else as well from the USA, but kids still dress up for it and go trick or treating when half of the people have no idea why they're doing it. (And we DO have carnival and stuff you actually CAN dress up and which IS part of our tradition.) ... Which makes me sound like a giant traditionalist living in yesterday, but GAH, it makes me sad that people just do this without having any idea what the roots are or anything.

My celebrity wishlist at the moment would include Rory Williams from Doctor Who. Are fictional people allowed? I hope they are. Real normal people tend to be less awesome than fictional normal people.

Also, I'm watching football at the moment (soccer for all the Americans out there) and this guy I can't stand and who's been famous for not scoring for years, has already scored two goals. I'm slightly confused by this development, and desperately cling to my notion that he's a really awful striker. I can't handle him being suddenly good at what he does.

I don't really get halloween either. I don't really really mind it, but it's not that big a deal over here and I'm incredibly anti social so having people knock on my door and having to smile and stuff is a bit of a pain for me some years.

I think I'm struggling with the celebs meme most of all because it does say celebrities and not fictional characters. And I only really like fictional people. I could find five of those in no time flat, some of them wouldn't even be played by Mark-Paul. But celebrities are trickier, because I don't know them, they might be horrid.

I'm sorry if he's scoring against you, and he's obviously confusing you in ways that are Ungood. But that's quite happy for him. Well done, random footballer dude!

No Halloween costume for me this year, but I did see some fabulous ones on campus! I kinda really, really love Halloween, because for me it's a chance to dress up and become someone I'm not for a night....which I guess probably says a lot about me, lol. (Sidenote: to go along with my trend of favorite unpopular holidays, my absolute FAVORITE holiday is Valentine's Day, followed closely by Easter.)

That Batman costume is possibly the most awesome thing EVAR! Also, are we sure he got arrested? He could've just gotten pulled over and gotten a speeding ticket or something? The pic didn't show me too much....unless I'm missing something?

My current celeb crush of the moment is Chris Hemsworth, followed quickly by Chris Evans, Misha Collins, and Ryan Gosling.... Also, I feel Jason Statham should be in there somewhere, because yes and his biceps make me go all squishy inside...

Whenever people say chris evans I still immediately think of this guy, and it's almost never the one they mean. Jason Statham! Oh. I do quite love him on occasion.

I might like Halloween more if I was in america where it's sort of proper, here it's all very half hearted and just a bit of a nuisance.

That totally makes sense. I studied abroad in Shanghai and American/Americanish holidays are no fun in other countries. :-/ I can very easily see how all the cheer could get sucked out of Halloween. Do you guys have candy corn there?

*giggles* I am a die-hard romantic. DIE-HARD! So, in my head, Valentine's Day is super, super cute because all these couples are getting together and professing their love for one another and guys are doing romantic things for girls and girls are being all appreciative and giggling back (and/or reverse gender roles/genders as needed to suit the fantasy) and there are many, many smooches and snuggling! And I just KNOW that sooner or later, my Prince Charming will ride up on a white horse and he will sweep me off my feet and we will ride off into the sunset together and live happily ever after! :D It hasn't happened yet (I think my Prince must just be directionally challenged...) and I almost never have a valentine (I had one in the 4th grade and one in the 8th...and honestly, I could've done without either...), but it's just the expectation, you know? Like, just the promise of someday, one day, my Prince will come. :-)

I don't think we do have candy corn. You can probably find it, but I don't think it's a common thing yet. But I don't know.

We have bonfire night just a week after halloween, which I love to BITS because you get to build MASSIVE FIRES and eat toffee apples, so I always bypass halloween a bit on the way there.

(It's not just me, nearly every british person you ever talk to has to do a weird double take when people are talking about their epic love for Chris Evans. It's just wrong to us.)

Most places now can't afford to insure against bonfires falling on people, so quite often you're not allowed anywhere near them any more and it's really sad and I don't think they hardly ever kill people and taking FIRE away from bonFIRE night is just awful. So sometimes we're allowed private bonfires, but they're never quite as massive and good as the organised ones are.
