Title: Sometimes
Pairing: Peter/Jared
Disclaimer: I do not own nor do I claim to own or have owned any recognizable entities.

Sometimes all that Peter needed was Jared in his bed.
Curled up into him with that gorgeous little smile.
He pressed small kisses on his partner's back.
Jared wouldn't remember when they woke up.
Thinking it a drunken, happy night.
And he'd forget it all.
But Peter never did.
Those lovely nights.
His Jared.
Irreplaceable.

They wouldn't  talk about it. Not because they were embarrased, either, but they didn't want to ruin it. It was fine how it was, Peter's bed always open for Jared when he'd hit a rough patch, Jared always ready to comfort Peter after Janie called. It was a given that sometimes they'd wake up with their legs entanged, Jared clutching Peter's arm like he didn't ever want to let go, hair all disheveled and fingers ghosting, silently, effortlessly, captivatingly over skin almost golden in the early light. Jared always knew, always remembered the feathery kisses, always so confusing because they were barely there, always along that same spot on his back where Peter had accidentally hit him with a plate of lasagna. Peter'd still blush, of course, at Jared's sidelong glances, those mischevous little smiles that meant the world to Peter. And no matter how hard they fought, there'd still be that moment when Peter looked at him with that look like he was dying and the only thing left to do was forgive and forget, and that night Jared would come into his room, sheepishly muttering apologies, and Peter would pull back the covers a bit and pull Jared towards him, relishing the warmth and his smell and those tiny shivers that meant it was all right to hold him closer.
They'd never talk about it, but they'd always remember. And it really was inevitable, the morning they woke up, holding each other close, and Peter decided that he didn't want to pretend to forget anymore, and leaned down to kiss his half-awake partner. It was inevitable, the slow, adoring grin that stretched gracefully out over Jared's face as he reached up to press his lips against bewildered Peter's again, carefully, softly, cautiously, like everything else in their lives.
They wouldn't say anything, but by then it really didn't matter. The unspoken agreement that Jared could entwine his fingers with Peter's whenever he wanted to and Peter could lean down and brush his lips over Jared's was all they needed to know that those nights were real, they weren't just drunken promises to never leave and don't worry, you're stuck with me forever, they were tangible and feeling and teeth grazing over soft flesh as a hiss came out of Jared's mouth that sounded surprisingly like an 'I love you'. But it was okay, Peter wouldn't say anything.
