The thing to me was suits. Damien's in particular. I had to rewind and watch the scene with him and Hanna with the kid kayaker when Damien had no jacket, no tie and his shirt sleeves were rolled up and I'm what the hell is going on. Went back and appreciated ... several times. Love forearms. Will step down now.

I think they're seriously really really particularly good at forearms in this show. I know forearms are always nice, and shirt sleeves are RIDICULOUSLY GOOD, but I think they're better than usual at them. I do love Damien, and I know what you mean, because he's being really defensive in that scene and is just a great great shape, and his shirt is brilliant. But for me it's Peter. In the last episode when thingy from Fake Battlestar is in her underwear it is like something in Mark-Paul Gosselaar just goes 'OH, I AM ALWAYS THE MOST PORNOGRAPHIC THING IN A ROOM, SORRY, I CAN'T HELP IT' and all of him just becomes made of beautiful sex. But mostly his forearms, and his shoulder. Shoulders are so nice under shirts.

Hello! I am dealing *badly* with the season having ended, because all other television has paled in comparison with Franklin and Bash and I'm not even joking and I don't know why that happened to me.

I'm dealing with it by watching everything else Breckin and MPG have ever been in, which is great because you get to look at Breckin Meyer some more, but also slightly soul destroying because he was nearly entirely just WASTED until they made him Jared. I'm so grateful they made him Jared.

My thoughts on the Peter/Janie thing is basically that I like it if it stays dead. I know it's a bit cliché slash fan of me, but I love that Jared won, I love that he has custody of Peter, I never want that to change. I really really like the female characters in Franklin and Bash but I still don't believe they have the ability to write either of them into a relationship without making it rubbish and awful. I love how often the actors say they hope that doesn't happen too.

OH PETER SMILING. I love when they smile at whatever the other one says.

I love that Peter actually gets along really well with Janie's fiance! It's often such a cliche, when we're meant to root for the ex, to bring in the new guy and have him be an asshole so the audience hates him. I LOVE that van der Beek's character is a genuinely nice guy and he and Peter actually become friends. I thought they were great together, and the fiance was entertaining even by himself without Peter. That's one of the main reasons I'm not into Peter/Janie (aside from the obvious Peter should be with Jared reason)--there's no way to do it without either hurting her fiance and I like him much too much for that, or turning him into a bad guy which would be a shitty rom-com move that's been done a million times. I'd love to see more of Peter and van der Beek hanging out! And Jared along for the ride, half-exasperated but half-charmed. Idk if VDB is someone they can get back as a recurring guest star, but I think it would be fun.

This. Somehow them managed to make the female characters pretty much not props for the men... just keep going in that direction writers!

I'd love for VDB to come back. They've written these lovely minor characters, no reason not to keep using them.

I love that Harvey and Jared know about waistcoats (vests) and how they are the BEST INVENTION EVER. I half wish Peter was allowed vests as well, but I am not sure he would suit one, and Jared suits one so much, maybe because he's tiny, it sort of makes him more grown up looking, and with Peter it would kind of stop you being able to just touch him as easily and Peter looks really good being touchable I think. But yes, suits! I like how they have to button them and unbutton them all the time, because I have a massive clothing kink going on and it's like they are finishing getting dressed while in public or something, I don't know.

(Also I disappeared for a bit, because I have to take thyroxin every day but today I mixed it up with sleeping pills and knocked myself out for six hours. Way to go, me.)

Yes! They did so nicely. I love that Janie GENUINELY SEEMED TO LOVE HIM. Which is something programmes often just don't bother writing. I really really hope they're married by season 2. I love how she believed him that he hadn't slept with a prostitute, and she was totally willing to work through their problems, and, I don't know, they just seemed really nice together. And they take so many opportunities when they could make Janie boring and bitchy and just avoid them. Also, they remembered that Peter is really nice as well, so made him be able to see that Dawson was nice. So he didn't have to be childish or dull. I LOVE FRANKLIN AND BASH SO MUCH.

I did like VDB way more than I expected to as well, and Jared being all jealous of Peter having another friend was many kinds of lovely.

It's bizarre how good they are at female characters, I do just keep my fingers crossed that it wasn't just a fluke thing that's going to go out of the window next year. If they ruin Hanna I'll cry. Or Ellen. Or Carmen. And I do hope we get Ellen for a few more episodes next season because I love her SO MUCH it isn't entirely containable.
jekesta: Paul and Dylan love each other SO VERY MUCH. (neighbours pairing of yay)

I have watched Suits! I wasn't going to comment on it, because I find it tricky and I know people love it a lot. I do sort of love it, I just have this awful blank spot where it comes to Mike, because I went from just not caring about him to finding him actively annoying. And I'm not sure they've decided on a character for him, and . . . I don't know. I have been boring people all over the internet trying to work out my feelings about Mike and I just can't really.

But! OH MY GOD HARVEY. HARVEY IS INCREDIBLE. And I love him with Donna. When he held that basketball in front of him, and she said he should just betray his mentor and he was holding a ball and he looked incredible and I LOVE THEM QUITE A LOT. Because Donna could be so annoying and she's a bit IN YOUR FACE AMAZING, but I just love her. Also Jessica is fabulous, and I love her relationship with Harvey as well. And although I don't exactly want het, I do just want the three of them to run a small law firm somewhere hot and dusty and to ditch Mike. (I actually find Mike slightly more likeable when he's with . .. his friend, I'm blanking on his name. The baddy who makes him do drugs. Harvey/Mike is sort of a relationship pandering to everything I love most, but it's missing me by a mile.)

It's just that we'd seen Damien with his tie loosened once (the Pilot, I think) and then straightening everything out after the whole bowing down to Stanton thing I hated but otherwise (to that point) with everything buttoned up and battened down. I had to make room in my world view of Damien to allow for this casual business. It took a few ... um ... viewings to do that.

With Peter, it's simply effortless. Peter Sex on Two Legs Bash!

Butting in here to say that I love Suits but do not give a shit about Harvey/Mike at all, either. I think Harvey is entertaining to watch, and Donna and Jessica are amazing, and my favourite is Louis Litt. But Mike by himself is incredibly boring. I enjoy the show because it's so self-consciously about people who are assholes and know it, but I find that in a lot of Harvey/Mike fics people write them as a lot more likeable and soft and squishy than they actually are. The friend you're blanking on is Trevor, and I adore him, haha. I love how every time he gets in on the shenanigans he and Mike and Harvey basically act out a gangster movie, with kidnappings and extortions and baseball bats. I like watching Harvey/Mike banter on the show just fine, but I'm uninterested in fanfic, which sucks because that's obviously 90% of the pairing. Luckily I can hang with my 10-percenters, writing fic about Louis and Trevor. XD

Oh god, Jared's wastcoats have to be about my favourite thing (apart from Jared himself!) He just looks so damn adorable in them!

I read a fic where Jared buys Peter a suit but says he didn't get him the waistcoat because then they'd both look like magicians. In my head, that's totally the reason that Peter doesn't wear one. [nods]

[identity profile] rogoblue.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Not everyone can pull off a waistcoat. He did and that was fun to view.

Hi, my name's Vic and I'm a Frankin-and-Bash-aholic... [waves]

I watched Season 1 on the British schedule so only saw the last episode a few weeks ago. It's safe to say that I'm not handling the withdrawal well - I now own 25 films with Breckin Meyer in and YouTube is thinking of taking out a restraining order on me! I might have been a bit slow off the mark because it took me about 4 episodes to realise that I was watching a love story of epic proportions and not just a legal comedy, but after that I could not stop seeing it!

My favourite thing about this fandom is some of the kinks / tropes / whatever you want to call them, that are just accepted as fanon. Like:

Peter and Jared being comfortable sharing a bed - This will never get old. Ever.
Jared wearing Peter's clothes - I love how it accentuates the tinyness.
Being so comfortable with physical contact - Hugs, touches, whatever, they're there for each other.
They can make out without any angst - And may they never stop!
Being so protective of each other - A 'no-one insults my best friend except me' kinda deal.
Unicorns - Just... too awesome for words!

[identity profile] rogoblue.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
With Beau Bridges for a father, his mom must've been really tiny.

[identity profile] vic-amy-z.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with... all of this! I appear to be dealing in a very similar way, although I still have much MPG to catch up on because my love for Breckin has eclipsed everything else!

Peter and Janie works for me in the way that the back story gives them something to spark off, but I don't want to see it back on screen. Both Peter and Jared seem to work better having casual relationships with women and then always coming back to each other. Also, I kinda like the fiance - I think the fact that Jared's jealous of Peter and Nathan even more than he is of Peter and Janie is hilarious. I want more Van Der Beek in season 2!
