(no subject)

Sad news that we probably knew was maybe coming.

Franklin and Bash has been cancelled.

There's no bright side to this, but through the tears and over the sounds of our hearts shattering, never to be repaired, I think we can try to remember the good times, the lovely characters they probably didn't realize they were creating, the plot points that we predicted and they gave us, and, of course, the undeniable love between Peter and Jared.

And, with canon closed, I'm pretty sure they legally belong to us now.

Who wants to hug it out?

I am always looking for more buddy shows because whether I ship it or not, there is a distinct lack of best friends in the media, and the best friend dynamic is my all time favorite. Psych ended perfectly because they did keep Shawn and Gus together even as 1/2 of their duo got married and that's so important.

It kind of makes me glad that Peter and Jared's last official words to each other were "I love you" because even if they broke up, I doubt it would be for very long. They'd come back to each other eventually, because how could they not?

Have you ever watched Riptide? It's from the early eighties, so you have to forgive it a little bit, but it's also the most beautiful friendship/buddy pairing, and it's funny and really lovely. Nick and Cody are best friends who live on a boat together and work as private investigators, and their love reminds me of Peter and Jared a lot.

No, I've never seen that one. I'll have to look it up now! Something has to fill the void.

As much as I hate remakes of good slashy seventies/eighties shows with all my heart, I think MPG and Breckin could do really nice, kindly remakes of both Riptide and Alias Smith and Jones. Esp. AS&J actually, because Breckin has completely the right smile, and it's about two best best best friends in the wild west and they'd get to ride horses, and rob banks and sleep really close to each other for warmth.

I know right? And a lot of the plots of AS&J are just about one of them getting arrested and the other one having a panic and holding his hands through the bars and promising to rescue him. There's even an awful episode where they get separated and one of them gets caught and the other one gets into town just in time to think he's missed him being hanged. It's stunning.

Oh do! It's a lovely little show, and sometimes it gets a bit tiring because the writers split them up a lot, rather than just letting them stand near each other and have feelings, but in between that there are so many beautiful moments of true love. And Pete Duel's smile really does compete with Breckin's for being the best smile I've ever seen.

(And there's only a season and a half because half way through the second season one of the actors gets replaced - for genuinely tragic reasons - so none of the fandom watches beyond that, it's like there are ghost episodes that just don't really exist.)
